back home and back to school

just got back frm italy today... trip was not the best i suppose but still good, its a really pretty place but i guess for pretty nothing can beat new zealand haha. and it was really rushed cos we had a very short time to see so many places and there was ALOT of sitting the bus frm place to place (like 6 hours a day?) and we all know that travelling and peng does not go well tgt so yeah. haha. but i got a nice tan frm the really perfect weather of sunny yet windy and dry, except for a really obvious slipper tan! ew. ok so heres what happened

good things abt italy:

- midevial (sp???) towns like sienna and assisi where were really hilly and made us climb up and down the streets but were so pretty they took my breath away and brought us back by a few centuries, its really amazing how people today are still living in places built so many years ago!

- the gorgeous churches and abundance of art displayed everywhere, nothing needs to be said abt the sistine chapel and st peter's basillica, and the churches in assisi were so serene and beautiful in thier own understated way. we even saw a cathedral built over a centuries old chapel where st francis passed away which was pretty cool and interesting. all in all by the end of the trip i was pretty sick of cathedrals already but when i saw the duomo in milan i couldnt stop looking at it! totally the nicest cathedral i have ever seen! even better than st peters and notre dame i think.

- seeing the leaning tower of pisa, which for some wierd reason i have always wanted to see! and laughing at all the people doing the same pose in front of it lol

- finally seeing venice for myself, its a really nice place! on the boat there i kept trying to imagine what it looked like in my head but i couldnt, but when i saw it it was just amazing :) really romantic place! and the view from the clocktower was good, got to see the whole city!

-meeting amir at a random square in venice, we were so shocked to see each other haha. but its always nice to meet a friend while abroad

-seeing all the actual famous works that we've all heard about. seeing is really believing! fine art is like taken for granted thereand random small chapels have like amazing works by michelangelo which is truly the most amazing dude ever!

-the florentine steak dinner where the steak was ginormous but the highlight of the night was watching people dance on the dance floor as MAMBO music was played, which was kinda hilarious but it really spoiled the mood man haha. this old couple in my tour group went up to do the twist which was sweet and very funny!

-the nice people on the tour with us who were really friendly and though we all know we wont see each other again, it was good to spend the past 10 days with such a nice bunch

-drinking with daddy and some others on the last night haha. first time i go drinking with my father!

at the end of the day, my fav part of italy is verona and sienna heh. much nicer than the big cities cos less crowded and much cleaner too!

not so good things:

- tour guide was really annoying. keep talking when we wanna watch the scenery and keep changing stuff around so we all got qt irritated with him... and keeps speaking hokkien and chinese! omg. haha. but he speaks italian too. the wierdest ah beng i have ever met

-everything was really expensive!!!! (except wine which was super duper cheap haha)

-the service standards there are nil and people cant be bothered to learn english which is really annoying considering that in many places tourism is thier biggest trade

-the really stupid rules about bus driving that says a driver cannot drive for more than 12 hours in a day! so we always had to rush back to the hotel to stone :S

-falling sick in the plane on the way home and feeling very sorry for myself haha (technically not in italy but who cares aye)

-the roads which suck, and our bus driver who was qt nice but kept getting lost! rarghs

yeahhhh. and i think the worst part of italy has to be naples! so dirty with rubbish everywhere and it looks really dingy also, with none of the charm of the other cities. the only thing it has going for it is that its near capri (which is really really pretty) and the worst thing is that when we went there, all the shops were closed! and the tour guide didnt even know la. super sian and nonsense!

haha so they abt even out but i think the good things win! yay and a holiday is always good for the soul to rest and escape for a while :)
